PRG member Patrick Campbell has written an article with colleague Dr Jane Turner that appears in peer-reviewed journal Performance Research.

This article, ‘On Exits, Endings and Earthquakes: The cautionary tale of Odin Teatret/Nordisk Teaterlaboratorium’, examines the rise, transformation and institutional rupture of Odin Teatret in relation to its former umbrella organization, Nordisk Teaterlaboratorium (NTL). Odin Teatret is one of the most influential theatre laboratory ensembles of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. Founded in 1964 by Eugenio Barba and rooted for decades in Holstebro, Denmark, Odin Teatret developed a distinctive poetics of actor training, collective dramaturgy and intercultural exchange that profoundly shaped the field of Third Theatre and laboratory practice. Drawing on historical analysis and conceptual reflection, the article traces the evolution of the group’s organizational and artistic ethos, highlighting its role as a transnational hub for practitioners, scholars and communities engaged in experimental theatre-making. Using the metaphor of the earthquake as an analytical framework, the article explores how creative rupture, instability and transformation have functioned both as generative principles within Odin Teatret’s artistic practice and as forces shaping its institutional trajectory. To find out more about Patrick and Jane’s article follow this link.
