Animoted at Modal Gallery

PRG member Dr. Adinda van’t Klooster has an upcoming exhibition at the Modal Gallery in March. Animoted shows work that explores how emotion can be tracked and assessed by machines and used aesthetically in mapping decisions in interactive artworks. Sometimes this has been used in performance (like in BioCombat (2015) and In a State (2014) and sometimes in interactive sculpture (in the Emotion Light, 2009) or more recently in VR artworks like VRoar (2023) and the Emote VR Voicer (2025-27).

All these projects are interdisciplinary projects led by Dr. Adinda van ’t Klooster. As well as a senior lecturer at SODA since 2022 and a member of the Performance Research Group, she is an interdisciplinary artist who has worked with programmers, musicians, artists, obstetricians, engineers, poets and composers. She combines digital and physical media like drawing and sculpture and has been an independent, UK-based artist for the past thirty years. This exhibition shows documentation of the earlier performance and sculpture-based projects, the recent VR artwork VRoar and work in progress from the Emote VR Voicer project, funded by the AHRC via a Catalyst Award.
The exhibition will be taking place at the Modal Gallery in the SODA Building at Manchester Metropolitan University!
Opening times: 10:00 am – 5 pm
