The Future of Practice Research

Members of PRG have been involved in coordinating this national conference hosted at MMU on the Future of Practice Research on Monday 9th June 2025. They also attended the talks and assisted with the facilitation of the performances by our MA/MFA Performance students, these took place during the lunch break and at the social at the end of the day,
“Due to the way practice is produced and the diversity of its forms, practice research can be more challenging to present than other more traditional text-based outputs such as journal articles, collections or monographs.” Professor Martyn Evans and Professor Kristina Niedderer, Manchester Metropolitan University, on behalf of the symposium organising committee.
Scholars from all over the country gathered to hear and discuss the challenges of practice research and its future in supporting academics from a practitioner background.
Rebecca Emmett, an REF panel D representative from Research England, spoke on REF and disciplinary challenges.
Jenny Evans, the Research Environment and Scholarly Communications Lead from the University of Westminster, spoke on “Charting the state of art and where it could/should go: A co-design approach to developing research infrastructure to enable ‘FAIR’ PR.”
Professor Nick Fells, the Professor of Sonic Practice at the University of Glasgow, spoke on “Capturing the ephemeral: what do Practice Researchers want and need? New horizons and the future of sharing practice.”
