Ntombizodwa Nyoni Award Nomination!

Congratulations Ntombizodwa Nyoni! Ntombizodwa Nyoni is a PRG member, Scriptwriting Lecturer at MMU and Author of the incredible play Liberation, which debuted at the Royal Exchange Theatre in June this year. She has earned a nomination for Best Playwright at the Black British Theatre Awards 2025.

The Black British Theatre Awards “illuminate, celebrate and accelerate Black excellence in theatre”. The BBTAs 2025 will take place on Sunday, 26 October 2025, at London’s Piccadilly Theatre.

Liberation traces the private lives of the people who fought to liberate Africa, it explores why their story remains relevant in 2025. The play premiered on 31 June and ran at the Royal Exchange Theatre in Manchester until 27 July.

Zodwa guest starred on the Bunker Talk series alongside the Director of Liberation, Monique Touko. Zodwa discussed the importance of this play and the process of writing it, while Monique shared the process of bringing this script to the stage. You can watch the talk by following the link below.
